Anna attended the D’Arcy Lane Institute in London, Ontario. It is the only school of its kind where equine massage is taught at the same facility and to the same standards as human massage therapy.
It is an intense two year, 2200 hour, full time program. The program was designed by veterinarians, Registered Massage Therapists, CEF Certified Coaches, competitive riders and horse owners and is taught by fantastic professionals who work in the industry.
There are many equine specific classes which include Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology, Conformation and Kinesiology, Behaviour and Management. In addition to those there are classes devoted entirely to equine massage: Equine Massage Theory and Techniques, Equine Massage Treatments and Equine Hydrotherapy. Everyone who attends the program also completes a Business and Research component.
Many things are learned before any massaging is actually performed, and even once the students do start to learn massage techniques, they are perfected on other students before a horse is ever massaged. Once students do begin working on horses though, they are exposed to a wide range of disciplines and given opportunities to learn on many different horses.
